What's new in Shrinebreaker

The latest changes to Shrinebreaker, newest first.

Latest

  • Death cries match the mage. Female mages and female looks now cry out with a woman's voice when they fall; male mages keep their two cries.
  • See a match's level before you join. The arena list now shows the level of each match next to its player count, or a range when the levels are mixed, so a new mage can pick a fair fight.
  • Class and level on the Online list. Under each name the tavern's Online list now shows the mage's discipline and level, like "Warden · Lv 24", and the "ready to spend" notice now fits on one line.
  • The wrap-up fits on phones. After leaving an arena, the Continue button now sits below the player table instead of covering its last rows; the table scrolls above it.
  • One set of spell effects and arena art. The "Experimental" spell effects and arena textures are simply how Shrinebreaker looks now, so their checkboxes are gone from Config.
  • Smoother on phones. Leaving a match on a phone no longer freezes on the way back to the tavern, and phones and tablets use less memory in the arena, so the game is less likely to stall or be closed by the browser.
  • The level cap is now 50. Mages can now climb all the way to level 50, and every level still brings more health, spell points, a spell pick and stat points. Bots keep pace, coming in at your level all the way up.
  • Feats: filters and sizes. The Feats page now has All, In progress and Completed, with the feats closest to done first, and small, medium or large tiles. Small fits 24 on a page; your choice is remembered.
  • Faster pages. The game's font now downloads at about a sixth of its old size, and the home page no longer loads its screenshot gallery.
  • Classes and screenshots on shrinebreaker.com. The home page now explains the four disciplines, with some of the spells each learns first, the orders and the season, and has a gallery of screenshots. It also has a link to join the new player community.
  • New mage shows the right law names. The painted New mage screen now lists each discipline's laws by their Shrinebreaker names.
  • See the rewards in Ranks & rewards. Each rank now shows a small figure of every look it gives and the flight and impact of every spell skin. Hover or tap one for a bigger preview.
  • Sharper spell skin previews. The spell skin pictures are no longer blocky, on the Spell skin page and everywhere else they appear.
  • A roomier Appearance tab. The unused Spell visuals panel is gone, so the mage picker has bigger figures. Spell skin… now sits at the bottom of the picker.
  • New feat badges. Every feat now shows its own rune or class glyph in a pewter badge, with its tier on the frame, in the Grimoire, the Feats panel, the pop-ups and the chat.
  • Runes on your hotbar. Each readied spell shows its rune behind its name in the arena, in its school's colour.
  • Find your spells faster. In the Grimoire's Spells tab you can search, sort by law, level or name, and show one law at a time. Readied sockets now show the spell's name.
  • Smoother scrolling. The mouse wheel moves the painted lists one row at a time, trackpads scroll smoothly, and you can drag lists with a finger on a phone.
  • All six mages when you create one. On the painted New mage screen the arrows under the figure now step through all six mages, Male and Female narrow them down, and you can pick a skin tone. Tap or drag the figure to turn it.
  • A bigger tavern chat. The tavern's chat now shows eight lines instead of three: the team choice is slimmer and the chat takes the room. It also opens on the newest messages.
  • A tidier tavern. Calendar and Settings now sit in the tavern's row of tabs instead of crowding the title.
  • Spend your picks and points. The tavern now says when you have spell picks or stat points waiting ("2 spell picks and 3 stat points ready to spend in the Grimoire"). Click it to go straight there.
  • A tidier Calendar. Long lines in the painted Calendar now wrap onto two lines instead of running into each other or being cut off.
  • Your look in the Sanctum. If a mage wears a Halloween or reward look, the Sanctum and the plain (Modern) character cards now show that look, at the same height as the other mages. Without one you see your mage in its skin tone.
  • Choose your title in the painted look. In the Grimoire's Quests tab, tap "Title" by your rank (or Choose title in Ranks & rewards, or your title in the Sanctum) to pick which earned title shows under your name, or none.
  • A clearer Appearance preview. The preview now shows only what you'll wear, either your mage or the look you picked, and your mage walks in it. Picking a mage while you wear a look says it will replace the look.
  • Looks at the right height. The Halloween looks were drawn taller than the mages. They now stand at the same height in the arena and in every preview.
  • Bonus XP nights. Every Friday from 8 to 11 PM Eastern, Friday Night Surge gives +50% experience in every arena, and every other Wednesday (from October 7) Midweek Kindling gives +25%, same hours.
  • A Calendar. Open it from the tavern or the Sanctum (Progress, then Calendar, in the plain look) to see the season, when quests reset, the Weekly Honours and the next bonus XP night, all in your own time.
  • Season 1: The First Breaking. Season titles now carry the season that gave them, like "S1 · Novice", so titles from future seasons stay apart. Hover a rank badge to see its season, and Ranks & rewards lists titles from past seasons.
  • Pick your mage when you create a character. The plain (Modern) New character form now offers the six mages and the eight skin tones, with a turning preview, instead of the old figures.
  • Reward looks renamed. The Halloween looks are now the Pumpkin Maiden, Wicked Lantern, Hollow Maiden, Grave Wizard, Grave Maiden, Rotting Wizard and Rotting Huntress, beside the Jack-o'-Lantern.
  • Choose your mage in the plain look too. The Appearance tab of the plain (Modern) spellbook, on phones too, now has the six mages and the eight skin tones, with a turning preview. Reward looks have their own section below.
  • New spell art. Shard Dart, Shard Lance, Shard Orb, Shard Squall, Shard Gale, Shard Ruin and Moonthorn have new projectiles and impacts, and Bramble Wall is now a wall of woven thorns.
  • Moonthorn in moonlight. Every rank of Moonthorn now flies as a violet-and-white crescent, and the Shard Dart looks like a dart when it flies straight at you.
  • A painted Leaderboard and Hall of Honours. The tavern's Leaderboard ranks mages by level, kills, wins and more, class by class, and the Hall now shows this week's Honours with their leaders, the countdown to the next award, past winners and season champions.
  • Better on phones. Button labels sit on their buttons again on small screens, the scenery fills the screen around the menus, and the plain look's Config menu can switch back to the painted look.
  • See more of the arena. The arena's panels are see-through and dark again by default; choose Parchment in Settings or Config if you prefer the painted look.
  • Every menu painted. The Chronicle, spell skins, controls, the guide, feedback and the other menus now open as painted pages, and the tavern has its own Settings button.
  • New shrines. Every arena's shrine is now a floating Keystone shard in its order's colours that cracks as it is damaged, shatters when it falls and rebuilds itself when restored. The minimap and the Stonebreaker and Desecrator feats show it too.

  • Your mage is your body. In the arena every mage now looks like the one you chose in the Grimoire's Appearance, in your order's colours. Pick from six mages and eight skin tones, and everyone sees it from your next match.
  • Stats and season ranks, painted. Spend stat points on a new painted Stats page, and see every season rank and its rewards from the Grimoire's Quests tab under Ranks & rewards.
  • Crawl into low tunnels. Hold crouch to crawl into a low passage from either end when it is a little below the floor you are on, such as the water tunnels under the walls in Barracks of Folenn. Bots crawl through them too instead of getting stuck at the mouth.
  • Two new mages. Ember Sage and Tide Oracle join the Appearance tab in the Grimoire, and the mage cards are tidier and easier to read.
  • A clearer sign-in screen. The title screen now has one large Sign in with Discord button, and the sign-in notice fits neatly on the parchment.
  • Shrinebreaker has a home. The game now lives at shrinebreaker.com, and you sign in with your Discord account. Sign-in opens to everyone soon.
  • The painted screens. The tavern, the Grimoire, new mages, results, settings and more now have the new painted look, and you pick your order in the tavern just before each match.
  • Classic, Modern or Hybrid. Choose how the game looks on the title screen or in Settings, or press F10 to switch between the painted screens and the plain ones.
  • New class and spell names. The four classes are now the Elementalist, Runewright, Mindweaver and Warden, and every spell and school has a new name of its own.
  • New arena music. Five arenas have new soundtracks, from symphonic metal to a desert theme. The credits list every composer.
  • Shrinebreaker begins. Three orders - Cinder Vow, Moon Veil and Reed Vigil - battle for the shrines, with a new look starting from the Sanctum, where your mages wait between matches.
